💥 1. Acute Stress

Definition:
Short-term stress that arises suddenly from a specific event or situation.

Characteristics:

  • Most common form of stress

  • Usually brief and intense

  • Triggered by immediate pressures (e.g., deadlines, exams)

Example:
Getting stuck in traffic while already late for a meeting.


🔁 2. Episodic Acute Stress

Definition:
Frequent episodes of acute stress, often due to a chaotic lifestyle or personality traits (e.g., always in a rush, taking on too much).

Characteristics:

  • Occurs regularly or in cycles

  • Can lead to irritability, anxiety, and health problems

  • Common in “Type A” personalities

Example:
A person who is always overcommitted and feels constantly overwhelmed.

Definition:
Ongoing, long-term stress from unrelenting demands or life circumstances.

Characteristics:

  • Most harmful type of stress

  • Often ignored because it becomes “normal”

  • Can lead to serious mental and physical health issues (e.g., heart disease, depression)

Example:
Living in a toxic relationship or dealing with long-term financial hardship.

Definition:
Positive stress that energizes and motivates you to perform well.

Characteristics:

  • Enhances focus and performance

  • Feels exciting or fulfilling rather than threatening

  • Helps build resilience and personal growth

Example:
The excitement before starting a new job or giving a presentation.
