๐Ÿ“˜ Innovation Adoption Process Model | ๐Ÿ“… 1962 | ๐Ÿ‘ค Everett M. Rogers

The Innovation Adoption Model was introduced by Everett M. Rogers in his landmark book:

“Diffusion of Innovations” (1st Edition, 1962)

In that book, Rogers proposed both:

  • ๐Ÿ“Š The Diffusion of Innovation Theory (population-level perspective)

  • ๐Ÿง  The Innovation Adoption Process Model (individual-level decision-making)

โ“ What is the Innovation Adoption Model?

The Innovation Adoption Model outlines the five mental stages a person goes through when deciding whether to adopt or reject an innovation (i.e., a new idea, product, or service).

It is also known as the Adoption Process Model or Adopter Decision Process.

๐Ÿงญ 5 Stages of the Innovation Adoption Process

๐Ÿงฉ Stage No. ๐Ÿท๏ธ Stage Name ๐Ÿ“„ Description
1 Awareness (Knowledge) The individual first becomes aware of the innovation but lacks detailed information.
2 Interest (Persuasion) The individual becomes interested and begins to seek more information about the innovation.
3 Evaluation (Decision) The individual mentally evaluates the innovationโ€™s benefits and decides whether to try it.
4 Trial (Implementation) The individual experiments with or tries the innovation on a small scale.
5 Adoption (Confirmation) The individual fully accepts and uses the innovation regularly.
