🌐 Importance of Foreign Trade Policy for Exporters

It is important for exporters of our country to have knowledge of Foreign Trade Policy as it is an important instrument that incentivizes the exporters of the country.

The Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2015–20 of India aimed to significantly increase the nation’s share in global exports — from around 2.1% (merchandise) and 3.1% (services) to a combined 3.5% by 2020.

📊 This targeted increase was also coupled with an ambitious goal of doubling exports to approximately $900 billion by the end of the policy period.

🏢 Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT)

The Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) is the government agency responsible for the implementation and administration of India’s import-export policies.

• DGFT formulates policies related to foreign trade

• Issues licenses for import and export

• Monitors compliance with trade regulations to promote exports and regulate imports

  This position was previously responsible for controlling imports and exports but has been replaced by DGFT.
