Performance and Credit Rating Scheme

The Performance and Credit Rating Scheme is an initiative launched by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India, aimed at evaluating the performance and creditworthiness of Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) in August 2016.

📘 Objective of the Scheme:

The primary objective of this scheme is to:

  • Provide an independent, trusted third-party assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of MSEs.

  • Help MSEs build their credibility in the market and with financial institutions.

  • Enable MSEs to access timely and adequate credit at competitive interest rates.

  • Encourage MSEs to maintain good financial discipline and sound business practices.

📘 Key Features:

  • The scheme is implemented through empaneled credit rating agencies such as CRISIL, ICRA, CARE, etc.

  • The cost of the rating is subsidized by the Ministry to make it affordable for small enterprises.

  • The rating is based on parameters such as:

    • Financial strength

    • Operational performance

    • Business risks

    • Market position

    • Management capability

📘 Benefits to MSEs:

  • Improved market reputation and customer confidence.

  • Better access to credit from banks and financial institutions.

  • Identification of areas for improvement in business operations.

  • Enhanced competitiveness and growth opportunities.

In summary, the Performance and Credit Rating Scheme is a strategic tool to help MSEs gain recognition, improve their business practices, and gain better access to finance by building trust among stakeholders.
